Matt Cutts on Backlinks

Well, seems Google tends to think that paid backlinks aren’t all they seem to be cracked up to be. Getting links from not topically matched pages and sites has finally risen to the view of search engines as the spammers are finally chastened.
Rustybrick covered the Q&A on links panel and did a fine job.

Apparently, the search engines agree, don’t participate in paid linking or reciprocal linking schemes. But the real question is, what is a scheme? Is it an attempt to alter PR for a page by getting links from other Web pages? Seems the search engines need to elaborate a bit further on this method of advertising.
